A basing period featuring a key resistance level with smaller pullbacks in the base structure.
A breakout that comes back to retest the prior price resistance level that is now support, and forms a new “base on base”.
Maintaining a model book of successful breakouts allows us to look for common features across setups. That helps us spot future breakout candidates.
It also provides a mental template of chart patterns to watch for. I can tell you from decades of experience that similar patterns repeat over and over across different stocks and sectors.
